Character: Serah Farron
Series: Final Fantasy XIII-2
Age: 21
History: I'm here to protect the future. And I will.
Canon Point: Post Requiem of the Goddess DLC, which takes place post the events of Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Personality: On the surface, Serah is a kind hearted and easy going person. She's smart and intelligent, though these are facts she neither flaunts nor fusses about. She has a willingness to help others, even those she does not know, and find a way to help them resolve their problems even if there's nothing she can ultimately do. If there is anything she can do at all, Serah will do it. This applies to any of her friends, as well. These qualities helps her to at least get on with others around her - she's not a social butterfly, but is far from a social recluse. Serah's the type of person to want to get on with everybody, so takes a more pacifistic approach in discussion, often coming across as quiet and timid. She knows when it's time to step up to the situation and confront it head on, though - there's a reason the kids in New Bodhum call her Meanie Miss Farron. When she takes control of the situation, she's unstoppable, and others often comment how she reminds them of Lightning in those moments. Put it this way, you do not want to get on her bad side. From past events, Serah has learnt that bottling things up and letting situations go on forever solve nothing - sometimes you do have to take life by the reigns.

To her friends and family, Serah is fiercely loyal, almost stubbornly so. She is very strong willed. Having lost her parents whilst young, Lightning was the one to raise her, so the two are particularly close in that regard. Though this made her somewhat independent, she was also somewhat sheltered as Lightning made it her mission to protect her best she could, even by almost pushing Serah away out of frustration, at the time. Serah's love for her family shows when Lightning seemingly disappears from Gran Pulse at the end of the events of XIII. Even when everyone Serah knew told her that Lightning was crystallised, or dead, Serah kept believing, knowing that her sister had been there, that she was alive. Her devotion and unwavering faith in her convictions and beliefs are incredibly strong - she will hold onto them even if the evidence suggests otherwise, refusing to believe the worst. Once learning that she was indeed right, Serah doesn't stop to gloat - she simply renews her goal to find her sister, ever more determined that they will find each other again. Time nor distance moves her from what she loves the most - she hopes, she dreams, she waits patiently, then in turn, searches for them in the same manner. She learns how to fight from scratch, though she has never fought before this. Despite both Snow and Lightning were gone by the story's start, Serah never loses her faith in them. She never gives up, even with the two most important people in her life gone, even with doubt and fear knocking on her door constantly.

Having lived without her parents for much of her teenage years, Serah is very independent, rational, and clear-headed. She does not like to burden others with her troubles if she can avoid it, especially friends - initially, upon becoming a l'Cie, she tries to deal with the problems on her own and rationalises a way out of them: firstly by protecting the people she loved, so they wouldn't have to suffer the same fate. This quality has not changed over the years. She keeps her troubles to herself, only showing the true emotions with much persuasion, or when it all gets a little too much. This is true of her journey with Noel through time, too. Serah is neither cold nor immune to what's happening around her. She connects with people and the events, and that can be as much a good thing as a bad one. Despair and frustration sometimes take her. At the end of the day, Serah is neither a soldier nor a warrior - just someone very, very human.

Serah has a sense of maturity and wisdom about her, which she has kept from her days of Cocoon. Even knowing that there is a possibility she may die due to her journey, Serah keeps going, never faltering. She accepts it with no complaint, vocal or otherwise. She has no regrets, as long as she could save those who she cared about in the process.

Skills and Abilities:

Bowblade: Serah fights with a bowblade, which is very much how it sounds; a bow for long range attacking, which can also morph into a blade for close range. Mog transforms into Serah's weapon during XIII-2, but whilst in DH she will have a comparable weapon that isn't linked to Mog (if that's okay with you, mods?).

Paradigms: Serah has access to all paradigms by game end, but she majors primarily in Ravager, Saboteur, and Medic.

Fighting/Magical ability: Prior to XIII-2, Serah had little experience with fighting, but has since decided to learn how to fight, and has done so successfully. A lot of her fighting style is loosely based on Lightning's - she flips and jumps, she can run around the battle field, both fighting in and out of the fray with ease. Whilst she is not built for attacking with her weapon for long periods of time, Serah certainly packs a punch in battle with her physical fighting skills. However, Serah's role is of the magic user, which shines through in the roles she majors in and her high magic stat. Prior to XIII-2, magic was unique to only the l'Cie, but Etro saving the XIII party and erasing Lightning from history caused the magic to seep in the land of Pulse, though Serah is a lot more potent than most in magic. She can cast all tier elemental skills with ease, though Thunder spells are her best; she can debuff enemies effectively, as well as wound them; and is a proficient healer to boot.

Her unique skill stems from her Ravager abilities, and is called Ultima Arrow. A barrage of arrows is rained down upon the enemy whilst using this ability.

Summoning: Serah can tame monsters to fight by her side. Lightning also possesses this ability, due to being in Valhalla, where the weak serve the strong (which is also the same situation in the Coliseum); as a champion of Etro chosen by Lightning, Serah too can command monsters that she defeats from gaining their crystals and thus obtaining their allegiance - each monster is summoned through its individual crystal. This whole process is very similar to how a summoner can tame summons and beasts to fight alongside them, and is reminiscent to XIII where the cast summoned their Eidolons through their crystal. It's a possibility that Serah can command monsters this way due to the fact she was once a l'Cie, which is how Eidolons were gained in XIII.

Eyes of Etro: Serah has been blessed with the Eyes of Etro, which usually solely belongs to the Farseer Seeress, Yeul. Though described as a blessing, it is very much a curse. The Seeress can see the future, which come to her in visions; but not without a price. Each vision takes off a piece of the Seeress life, until eventually, a final vision where the future completely changes will kill them.

Serah died as a result of the future changing, which she saw in a vision. This is prior to the point I'm taking her from. Since she was revived by a Phoenix Dragon, her visions which lead to death have been cancelled out as technically she should be dead because of them. Serah won't gain any visions of the future because of this (not that she'll be aware if she can or not), also as the worlds of DH are currently unconnected with Valhalla (and Etro), and in her timeline, Etro is dead. It is possible this ability of seeing the future could reawaken, but not without interference.

Once a l'Cie: Whilst not an ability, during the course of events in XIII, Serah was once a Pulse l'Cie. A l'Cie is given a set time limit to complete their focus, and is given a brand to indicate how long they have left - Serah's brand was on her upper left arm - if they fail, they turn into a Cie'th, a monster. If they succeed, they become crystal. Serah completed her focus and went into crystal stasis - to be presumably woken up at a later date. Thanks to the efforts of Lightning and her comrades, Etro took pity on those six l'Cie, Serah, and Dajh: she erased their brands, and they were no longer bound to the Fal'Cie and their bidding... which in itself set off a whole string of events and caused the events of XIII-2 to follow.

Howwever, though Serah is indeed no longer a l'Cie thanks to Etro, remnants of the fact she was a l'Cie remain. Magic came easier to her than most, even though in XIII-2 it's accesible to many; it's also possible this is why she can summon monsters to fight by her side; and when she enters Academia where the Proto Fal'Cie was made, her arrival makes Adam protect itself after scanning her arm, seeing a brand, and thus identifying her as a threat. It's Serah's presence that triggers Adam to change the population into Cie'th. Whether Serah can revert back to being a l'Cie is another question entirely.

First Person Sample:

Snow,

You are okay... right? Well, I know that you probably are, but sometimes you do tend to rush into things. Not that it's a bad thing; I've always loved that about you. But... just make sure you think about some things you do, okay? As much as I want to see sis again, I... don't want to lose you too.

I know. I know you couldn't watch me like that, slowly falling apart, so you did what you always do- try to help me. Even if there was nothing you could do, or I could do. You have to try. And that's why you're my hero, you know?

New Bodhum's very much the same. Lebreau's been running the bar, and Maqui's been inventing something or other. Gadot's definitely starting to come into his own, though he thinks he'll never fill your shoes. The kids sometimes misbehave, but I know they don't mean it underneath! But sometimes I have to be a little bit strict with them. I always think what Lightning would do in situations like that.

Well... I best get back to helping Lebreau.

... I miss you.

- Serah

Third Person Sample:

"Do you think I'll get the hang of it?"

Serah sighed, leaning against the cold rock of the Steppe, sat in a small alcove, with Mog on her shoulder, dozing. Noel was playing lookout, leaning against the wall next to her. Even though she was exhausted from simply crossing the distance and taking down each enemy they came across, Noel hardly looked fazed, all eyes and ears for anything that might approach.

"Sure you will," Noel replied, glancing her way.

"It's just not really having much endurance, if I'm honest... you sure I'm not slowing you down?" Serah said, half smiling, half worried. She had always been a burden to others: now that she was part of a group, learning to fight, it would be even worse if she couldn't hold her own during that. They were a team, and were supposed to look out for each other, and she knew that, though it didn't seem to be much of a two way process at the moment. She wanted to help, to get to Lightning, and stopping to rest wasn't something she'd accounted for much, really. Nor her inexperience. Once the adrenaline had gone, she was left only with the feeling of being tired.

Noel looked contemplative. Even though they'd only been travelling together a short time, he seemed to understand how she worked. In particular, the unvoiced worry. "Serah, are you a hunter?"

"No."

"A warrior?"

She shook her head. She already sort of knew where this was going.

"Exactly. You're new to this. You're just picking it up. Besides, me and Mog are here to help you. We're not going to have the same strengths, so it does nothing to compare."

"Exactly, kupo!" Mog chimed in. "You're more of a magic user, Serah! Your strength lies in spell casting, kupopo! Noel's more the reckless attacker, kupo!"

"Hey!" Noel grumbled, but Mog only giggled.

Serah smiled. "That's true. I just really want to help you in this, Noel... but I'm not sure how much I can give, right now. Though I will do my best- no, I will- I will get better. For myself, too."

Sure, there was the doubt, but she had the determination. Nobody should expect perfection when they first began something; she was smart enough to know that. It was her hard work that had gotten her to where she'd been before the Purge, afterall. Not to mention, she had vowed to find her sister again - and there was nothing that would stop her from doing that, even if there were a few obstacles and challenges along the way.
